1. Teaching and Learning:
• to plan, prepare and deliver schemes of work in accordance with the academic programmes set out by the school, which facilitate active learning experiences for ESL children;
• develop lessons and use resources to meet the needs of ESL students;
• to assess and maintain records of children’s progress in learning, using this information to move students in and out of the ESL programme;
• to manage the classroom environment so that it is a stimulating, well-resourced and orderly space which supports and encourages learning;
• to always set high expectations, which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils
• pace lessons so students make rapid progress so they may be successful in the everyday classrooms.
• to use all relevant technology to support learning,and development
• to identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet children’s varying needs
• to evaluate learning experiences and outcomes for children’s continual improvement
• to provide meaningful feedback and assessments for learning in line with HD Shanghai’s policies
• to ensure that the standards set out in the school’s policies, including but not limited to behaviour, teaching and learning and safeguarding are followed to ensure that all children are treated with respect – fairly and equally to ensure outstanding pastoral care in line with HD Shanghai’s policies and expectations
2. Communication and Cooperation:
• work co-operatively and supportively with other staff;
• Liaise with each English Homeroom teacher and cooperate with them in order to have deep understanding of the study habits, morals, life, character and interests of each student in the ESL programme.
• share information, ideas and resources with colleagues;
3. Administrative Function:
• fulfil the administrative functions of the ESL classes, eg.attendance, check Homework Diary/emails, etc.;
• participate in department and school meetings, parent meetings;
• share assessment data and ensure it is archived;
• communicate with Head of ESL and English Teachers in a timely fashion regarding student progress;
• prepare required reports on students and progress.
4. Contribution to the School Community
• play a full part in the corporate life of the school including school and social activities;
• Support school events such as, but not limited to, Student Assessment Days, Parent Information Days, School Bazaars etc’;
• support the school’s image in the community;
• support policies and procedures currently in place including those in the Staff Handbook.
