Position Summary

The College of Education at Michigan State University is seeking for 2 Ｏn-call positions for teaching Ｏnline Chinese courses as part of the Ｏnline Chinese Language Program for middle and high school students. These Ｏnline Chinese courses are offered in collaboration with Michigan Virtual. Candidates are expected to teach from beginning to AP level Ｏnline Chinese courses with up to 11 hours per week. The anticipated starting date for these positions is Aug 28, 2023.

Unit Position Summary

The Ｏnline Chinese Language Program currently provides a total of nine different levels (1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B, 4A, 4B, and AP) of credit-bearing Chinese courses to secondary level students in the U.S. These courses are offered in two-semester (Fall Spring) format that typically runs from late Aug to early June. Using a blended approach, instructors are involved in both synchronous and asynchronous teaching. Students are all required to attend Ｏne weekly lab session (synchronous Ｏn Zoom) and complete preview and review assignments (asynchronous Ｏn Brightspace) Ｏn their own. Desired Qualifications

A competitive candidate must demonstrate a high level of competency in teaching Chinese as a foreign/second language to secondary level students in the U.S. Experiences of teaching Chinese in Ｏnline settings are preferred. The candidate must hold a current Michigan certification (or certification issued by other States in the U.S.) or meet all teaching permit requirements to teach Chinese language in K-12 settings.
