OUR HISTORY

The International School of Beijing was the first international school in Beijing and today is recognized as a leading learning community. In its earliest stages, our school was made up of eight students and two certified teachers in the hallway of a diplomatic apartment compound. In 1980, amid the growth of other diplomatic communities, the US Embassy joined with the British, Australian, Canadian, and New Zealand embassies and formally founded ISB.

In 1991, ISB became the first school in Beijing to offer the full Diploma Programme of the International Baccalaureate. In 2007, ISB won full marks from three important accrediting agencies: the Chinese National Council Ｏn Curriculum and Textbooks (NCCT); the Council Ｏn American and International Schools Abroad (CAISA) of the US-ba

In January 2002, ISB was permitted to accept expatriate students outside of the diplomatic community. Since then, ISB has flourished and quickly became a respected international school with programs and accreditation worthy of the breadth and depth of its vision.

Today, our school is made up of approximately 1,650 students from Early Years (EY) 3 to Grade 12, with around 50 different nationalities represented in our diverse student body. The school continues to lead in its innovative approaches to learning and educator development.

We are proud of the community we have become over the past 40 years, built Ｏn the firm foundations put in place by those administrators, faculty, staff, students, and parents who have been part of our school over the last four decades. Our commitment is to continue this legacy to ensure we provide excellent learning and opportunities for our students in the years to come.

OUR GOVERNANCE

ISB is a non-profit school governed by a 12-member Board of Trustees. These 12 volunteers are responsible for setting and approving school policy, overseeing ISB's financial status, recruiting, supporting, and evaluating the Head of School and guiding strategic direction of the school.

Our parent and student community vote to elect members of the Board. The Board hosts monthly meetings and invites members of the ISB community to attend open sessions.

Each year, the Board sets goals to fulfill its responsibilities and establishes standing committees to manage its work. Ｏne Board member serves as chair of each committee and is assisted by a representative of the school's leadership team, parents, and faculty representatives. ISB benefits from its location in Beijing, China's ever-evolving capital and cultural center. As Ｏne of the world's great ancient capitals, Beijing is a vibrant modern city where tradition embraces modernity. Ancient palace complexes stand side-by-side the city's impressive skylines. Fast-food restaurants and luxury outlets share the urban landscape with street hawkers and people practicing tai chi in parks. To be prepared and properly staffed to serve our growing student population, ISB is posting tentative roles earlier this year than in past years.

JOB GOAL / PURPOSE:

• To plan, organize and implement a developmentally appropriate instructional program in a dual language (Chinese/English) learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their individual potential

• To maintain a caring, challenging and joyful learning environment for all students

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

• Provide relevant, authentic learning opportunities that are aligned to school adopted standards and the published school curriculum

• Monitor progress of the DLP student cohort and analyze data to inform teaching

• Grade and report progress of the DLP student cohort to reflect authentic learning and encourage success

• Communicate necessary information regularly and effectively to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs

• Keep up to date with developments and research in subject areas, pedagogy, teaching resources and dual language education

• Adapt instructional plans and activities ba

• Supervise students to ensure their safety and well-being

• Perform other duties as assigned that ensure a caring and safe learning environment and the delivery of the curriculum

QUALIFI CATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• A Bachelors degree or higher in Education, Bilingual Education, or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

• Five (5) years of successful, full-time classroom teaching experience

• Strong written, verbal and digital communication skills

• Demonstrated excellence in organizational, planning, communication and interpersonal skills

• Demonstrated excellence in teaching English language acquisition and literacy development

• Strong understanding and respect for a diversity of cultures and needs of language learners

• Strong understanding and experience with standards-ba

• Strong ICT skills and use of educational technology in classroom practices

• Valid teaching certificate
