Recruiting Chinese Language Teachers
Post-Primary Languages Ireland (PPLI) is a dedicated unit of the Department of Education and Skills with responsibility for implementing key actions in Languages Connect, Ireland’s Foreign Languages in Education strategy. PPLI is recruiting Chinese teachers to support the implementation of Mandarin Chinese as a Leaving Certificate subject in post-primary schools in Ireland. The contract is for one year initially, with the potential to be renewed.

Roles and Responsibilities
Teachers will be expected to work in areas which include but are not limited to the following:
1. Teaching of Mandarin Chinese in school/s at the level of Leaving Certificate, Junior Cycle Short Course and Transition Year;
2. Working with PPLI and school/s in establishing Chinese language and learner communities both within and beyond school/s;
3. Collaborating with other teachers in a Community of Practice where teaching and learning resources and experiences can be shared;
4. Development of teaching and learning materials and resources;
5. Engaging with CPD as necessary.
Requirements
Successful candidates will have expertise in the following areas:
1. Good knowledge of the Irish education system, particularly at post-primary level;
2. Experience of teaching Chinese as a foreign language at post-primary level;
3. Quality and depth of cultural and social knowledge of the Chinese-speaking world;
4. Native or minimum fluency in Mandarin Chinese of CEFR B2.2 or HSK 5 equivalent in all skills;
5. Full working proficiency in English (minimum CEFR B2.2 or IELTS 6.5 equivalent in all skills);
6. Commitment to teaching Chinese in Ireland;
7. Flexibility to meet the needs of PPLI, including a willingness to engage in travel and/or weekend and evening work as necessary.

3. Shortlisting may apply and interviews will be held in April.
4. All teachers will be expected to participate in induction and training from 2nd to 12th June provided by PPLI relating to the above.
