The Department of East Asian Studies seeksto appoint a University Lecturer in Chinese Language and Linguistics. We welcomeapplicants trained in Chinese linguistics who also have knowledge of, andexperience in, language teaching, testing, syllabus design, the development ofteaching materials, and language pedagogy. The ability to conduct linguisticand empirical research in L2 Chinese bilingualism/multilingualism is highlydesirable.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD inChinese language and linguistics or a related discipline and will have a recordof, or clear potential for, outstanding research. She or he will be expected todirect the modern Chinese language program; engage in high-level research;develop impact programmes outside academia; publish in their specialist fieldand seek opportunities to obtain external funding for that research; offerteaching and supervision on one or more of the undergraduate and postgraduatecourses in the Department of East Asian Studies; contribute to the growth oftheir specialist field and China Studies more generally; assist with runningthe Department's various programmes, including the organization of seminars,conferences, year abroad, and outreach activities as well as shoulderingappropriate administrative duties.
